about

This album was inspired by and is dedicated to my Mum, Margaret McKeen, who passed away on 16th June 2019. I hadn't realised at the time that she had implanted so many of these wonderful songs in my wee brain many years earlier.

Mum developed Alzheimers and Vascular Dementia in 2007. At the time I had no idea about the journey we were about to go on.

We met many wonderful people along the way who helped us to overcome the challenges that dementia presents.

Little did I know that Mum would bring me out my shell as a performer! I realised as her dementia advanced that music was such a powerful way to communicate with her. I'd say about 90% of our communication towards the end of her life was through music.

She was sharp as a tack, finishing the verses of songs she hadn't heard for many years. This was amazing therapy for both of us and everyone around her.

I'm will admit I am naturally tone deaf but have been known to play some complicated tunes on a keyboard such as the theme to Jaws.

Maybe through repetition there was slight improvement in my dulcet tones?

I was inspired to improve and took some singing lessons. I really wanted to go into Nursing Homes and sing some tunes to the residents as I'd seen the positive impact music had on my Mum.

Unfortunately it was impossible to source backing tracks for the songs I wanted to sing.

That's when fate kicked in - my Mums cousin Nettie, an amazing Lady, unexpectedly visited Mum one day as I was just about to leave for the Marymass celebrations in August 2018.

I decided to stay and chat to Nettie as I hadn't seen her for about 3 years. Just as she was about to leave, I started to sing to my Mum and explained to Nettie what I wanted to do.

Nettie said "I think I know someone who can help you" and before I knew it, I was speaking to an amazing man, Clark Sorley, who said "Yes I think I can help you with backing tracks and if you want we can record the songs too"

Well that was music to my ears and the rest is history! Clark is an enormously talented music producer and musician, with over 40 years in the industry. He gave me the confidence to get to the point I am at today.

Yes, I'm not the best singer, but I am passionate about my music, and I hope that comes across.

Never write anything off in life - send your thoughts out to the Universe and live your dreams!

Success is not all about the money!

So, if you've got the appetite, here's "A Wee Taste O' Andy"
